MIS Project - Update!

The Reflectacles' four-song EP is officially finished. Scott Fulton, Ryan Hopkins, and Patrick Day did a wonderful job of editing and getting the songs in tip-top shape. We will continue our project by creating and assembling press kits for the band. Meanwhile, we are organizing contacts to send press kits to and continuously marketing the band and project.

And....
for only the second time in the history of MIS Projects, our class has helped book a show for the band. The Reflectacles will be playing April 24, this Saturday, at The Breathing Room - 10400 Zelzah Ave. Northridge, CA at 6:30. Voxhaul Broadcast will be headlining, The Janks and Kristi Michele are also performing.

Please come and bring lots of friends! It will be a great show!

Spin's 50 Must-Hear Bands from SXSW

On March 17-21, nearly 2,000 bands headed to Austin, Texas for the 23rd annual South by Southwest music conference. Every year new and old music acts go to Austin to be seen and heard by music lovers who flock there from all around the world, with music executives right there with them. But with 2,000 acts performing, how can one know what's worth going to hear? No worries - Spin Magazine compiled a list of 50 essential, must hear acts. Although SXSW is over, these are bands we should be getting familar with if we aren't already!

AHEM....Maestro, Please!

This is the debut of the MIS blog. We are the Music Industry Studies major at Cal State Northridge. We are all either musicians or vocalists and truly have a passion for music, and have taken our love of music to higher education. Our program teaches us musicianship and all the details of the industry.

Our program also gives us the opportunity to take part in the process of selecting an artist each year to record, mix and master, develop media kits for, and then market and promote them. This year, our artist is(are?) The Reflectacles - they are a fantastic band that is self-described as psychedelic/folk rock. They are a talented group of gentlemen whose music has a flare for nostalgia, yet they bring something fresh to the table. Plus, they're really nice guys! We're thrilled to be able to work with them. We have recorded them, and the mixing process will begin any day now at CSUN's studio. We are also setting up a show for them at The Breathing Room in Granada Hills on April 24. Opening and headlining acts are yet to be determined, so we will keep everyone informed when booking has been finalized. Lastly, media kits will be in the works shortly. Our goal with The Reflectacles is to get one of their songs placed in a television show, so we'll keep everyone updated on those efforts as well.

Sorry this is so much about us tonight - it won't always be this way. The purpose of this blog is to share what's going on with us, but to also talk about some industry news and fun stuff.

Hello, blog world!

love,
MIS
